  • And one... one forty plus.: Twitter Isn’t “Over”, I’m Over It.

I don’t know about living in one space or another. Each thing like Twitter or Tumblr or YouTube allows people to express themselves differently. But I see John Mayer’s point:

How do you know someone in 140 characters or even express yourself?

I’m not sure that’s reasonable to expect that from the platform however. Maybe with celebs and athletes, people want to “connect with them any way they can. A follow’s as good a way as any to at least feel like you’re part of Shaq’s universe.

He… he… followed me. Like this validates you or something. Maybe it does for some. As a kid, you’d have no way to reach out to heros like this.

I told someone who complained about repeating the same stuff everywhere, look, just use the internet your way, and I’ll use it mine. It’s big. There’s enough space, I’ve heard. Seems funny to have rules for shit in a space that’s big enough for everyone.

I’m on Twitter or my blog, among other places. That’s what all these multiple things give people though: different ways to reach out and express.

To that end, this Tumblr post is the longest thing I’ve written here, mostly because I use it to post shit that doesn’t fit anywhere else in my online space, and that’s pics mostly.

    C’mon, admit, Spock IS badass.

Where I disagree: the community policing itself to ensure good shit gets posted. Hmm. Mostly, I suppose. I’ve seen though some comments that make me wish I was reading a debate on Christian metalcore bands on YouTube instead. They have those?

    Yes, apparently:

“ Agraceful can suck a thousand chodes.”

    Oh.

But, again, like I said, everyone’s free to use this thing the way they want.

    ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Last week in Los Angeles I participated in a live Q&A as part of an ASCAP expo on songwriting. When the topic of Twitter came up, I explained my waning interest in it being part of my daily life. By no means do I think it’s over as a medium altogether, but I do think that the days of “Twitter: The… (more…)
